Type-directed synthesis of visualizations from natural language queries

چکیده

We propose a new technique based on program synthesis for automatically generating visualizations from natural language queries. Our method parses the query into refinement type specification using intents-and-slots paradigm and leverages type-directed to generate set of visualization programs that are most likely meet user's intent. system captures useful hints present in allows algorithm reject violate well-established design guidelines input data set. have implemented our ideas tool called Graphy evaluated it NLVCorpus, which consists 3 popular datasets over 700 real-world experiments show significantly outperforms state-of-the-art tools, including transformer rule-based ones.

Articulate: Creating Meaningful Visualizations from Natural Language

This chapter presents an approach to enable non-visualization experts to craft advanced visualizations through the use of natural language as the primary interface. The main challenge in this research is in determining how to translate imprecise verbal queries into effective visualizations. To demonstrate the viability of the concept, we developed and evaluated a prototype, Articulate, which al...

Type- and Content-Driven Synthesis of SQL Queries from Natural Language

This paper presents a new technique for automatically synthesizing SQL queries from natural language. Our technique is fully automated, works for any database without requiring additional customization, and does not require users to know the underlying database schema. Our method achieves these goals by combining natural language processing, program synthesis, and automated program repair. Give...

Natural language directed inference from ontologies

This paper presents an investigation into the problem of content determination in natural language generation (NLG), using as an example the problem of determining what to say when asked “What is an A?”, where A is a concept defined in an OWL ontology. It is shown that a naive approach to this problem, which just presents a set of the stated axioms, will often inadvertantly violate maxims of co...

Articulate: A Semi-automated Model for Translating Natural Language Queries into Meaningful Visualizations

While many visualization tools exist that offer sophisticated functions for charting complex data, they still expect users to possess a high degree of expertise in wielding the tools to create an effective visualization. This paper presents Articulate, an attempt at a semi-automated visual analytic model that is guided by a conversational user interface to allow users to verbally describe and t...

Linguistic, Philosophical, and Pragmatic Aspects of Type-Directed Natural Language

We describe how type information can be used to infer grammatical structure. This is in contrast to conventional type inference in programming languages where the roles are reversed, structure determining type. Our work is based on Applicative Universal Grammar (AUG), a linguistic theory that views the formation of phrase in a form that is analogous to function application in a programming lang...
